A group of midwives living in London's East End in the 1950s and 1960s must learn how to maintain their relationships with one another in a convent, known as the Nonnatus House. Jenny, a 22-year-old, has to cope with the extreme living conditions she sees in the slums while also getting a glimpse of the bravery and strength of the mothers. The midwives become family to Jenny even after she leaves the convent due to the valuable lessons they teach her and the experiences she shares with the other women. She chooses to chronicle her story and document the stories she lived.
