John Stewart, a retired Marine pilot, is recruited by the Guardians of the Universe to become the Green Lantern of Sector 2814, which includes Earth. Stewart is hesitant at first, but he eventually accepts his new role. He is given a power ring and lantern battery, which allow him to create anything he can imagine with his ring. He learns to use the ring to fly, create energy shields, and fire blasts of green energy. Stewart overcomes his initial doubts and comes to enjoy being a superhero.
