Environmental degradation and wars have finally ruined the Earth making it all but uninhabitable. A select group of humans fly off into space and find a new home on the planet Kepler 209. However, it becomes clear that Kepler cannot be a permanent home because humans are unable to reproduce there. Many years later, they send an elite astronaut back to Earth to see if it might again be livable. But what Louise Blake finds are human survivors who have devolved into violent, primitive anarchy. Now Blake?s desperate mission is finding a way for Earth?s refugees to return.
