Joseph, a trapper and an outdoor survivalist, lives in a cabin on federal land with his wife, Anne, and their daughter Renee. Anne tells Joseph that she thinks it's time to return to the world for the sake of their daughter. Joseph dismisses Anne's concerns. He believes that Renee's survival depends on learning how to become an effective hunter. After a wolf begins hunting in their area, Joseph leaves to track it down. When he doesn't return, Anne reports his disappearance to local police, but they are also dismissive. Unwilling to leave the region without Joseph, Anne attempts to continue to teach Renee her father's ways and push on until one night she hears cries in the woods and investigates. What she soon discovers teaches Anne that not all wolves walk on four legs...
