In this sci-fi adventure, a video game store worker named Max Jenkins comes across a strange version of a Nether game when he discovers it sitting on the counter at his place of employment. Not knowing that this particular installment in the game series is cursed, he ends up unlocking the Nether, which is a mysterious evil force that quickly descends upon the small city he lives in to cause total destruction. To stop the threat that the Nether poses to his area, Max pairs up with his two best friends and a masked man for the purpose of trying to come up with ways to beat this dark force before there's no time left.
