An aspiring writer and translator takes to the waters off the Dutch coast with the intention of murdering his unfaithful wife who told him she was leaving him for her therapist. But when her body never turns up, he suspects that she may still be alive. After visiting an older well-known author on a secluded island, he translates a story to him that was written by another author, who is now deceased. The story sounds like an autobiographical account of certain events that occurred in his life, including the plotting of his wife's death. Based on the mystery stories of Scandinavian author Hakan Nesser, the twisty and suspenseful tale is the first in a trilogy.
