In early 18th century England, while Queen Anne is ill and unable to govern, Lady Sarah leads the country while Anne is unable to. England is at war with France, and a new servant, Abigail, has come to assist the Queen. Abigail quickly supplants Sarah as the closest confidante to the Queen. While Sarah is spending all of her energy governing, Abigail uses her newfound status with the queen to fuel her own personal ambitions.
