The DiMeo family is made up of members who each have their own unique personality traits that make their lives both interesting and complicated. Maya is the mother who has a take-charge kind of attitude. Her husband has a nonchalant attitude and could care less about what others think. Dylan is their serious, goal oriented and athletic daughter, while Ray is the smart one who offers helpful and reasonable advice. J.J. is their oldest son who suffers from cerebral palsy. J.J. communicates with his family through the use of a laser pointer which he uses to point at letters, objects and other things. The family constantly has to move to find the right school for JJ. Eventually, they find what appears to be the perfect school and neighborhood.
