After being taught to believe that a woman's life must consist of acting as a dutiful house wife and mother who sacrifices for everyone else, Agnes decides to start exploring the world beyond her small immigrant community and the narrow, traditional views of those in it. When she takes up a hobby putting together puzzles after receiving one for her birthday and joins another puzzle enthusiast, Robert, in a competition, she learns that the people around her who have taken her for granted fail to understand how her life before the puzzles was filled with too much drab repetition. Agnes must decide whether this new passion that has come to mean so much is more important than her comfortable life and love and related obligations.
