When Jane and her son move to Monterey, local mothers Celeste and Madeline decide to show her the ropes around a town where there's a separation of the rich from everyone else. None of the women realize the severity of the impact that they will have on each other's lives because of the little lies they tell themselves and one -- an impact that will spread like a plague to everyone and everything, including their partners, children, exes and neighbors.
