Max and Ellie have been friends for years, but the two girls are getting tired of their humdrum suburban existence. When the Cuban Missile Crisis makes the two teens realize that life is precious and fleeting, they decide to seize life by the horns and make a bold mood. The girls decide to take a car and travel on a journey across the United States. The girls hope to eventually see former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, who was their favorite role model when they were children. Along the way, their friendship is greatly tested and they must overcome several obstacles.
