The Affair follows Alison and Noah, two married people who meet while vacationing in a resort town outside of New York City and begin a secret affair together. Noah is a schoolteacher and novelist, struggling to finish a book. He is happily married with children, but not entirely happy with his situation. Alison is a waitress, struggling in her marriage due to tragedy and finances. Alison and Noah see each other as welcome distractions from their realities. Told from the perspective of each of these characters, the series shows the psychological effects that the affair has on both individuals and their families.
