Nina Whitley's life is turned upside down when she is passed up for a promotion at her high-powered corporate attorney job and sees her ex-fiance's wedding announcement all in one day. Having given up everything in her pursuit of success, this news causes Nina to have a public breakdown. Now, out of a job and shunned by the corporate world, Nina takes a position at the much less glamorous Public Defenders office, where she must learn to cope with new coworkers and a whole new set of rules. To top it all off, she has to deal with her ex-fiance Trent, whose star is quickly rising in the office of the District Attorney.
