A British police procedural drama series with two Manchester female detectives as its main characters. Although they are close friends, they have very different personalities; one is calm and maternal while the other is an impulsive risk-taker. They work under a tough, demanding but caring female superior, and they work with a group of men often skeptical of their abilities. The show follows these women through marriages, divorces, affairs, and child-rearing, and dramatizes their difficulties in balancing their turbulent home lives with cases of murder, domestic assault, and police and court corruption.
