Edmund Hilary is a man on a mission. Having learned that no one has ever climbed to the peak of Mount Everest, he embarks on a dangerous and, some say, foolhardy mission to ascend to the top. He enlists the help of Tenzig Norgay, a Sherpa with plenty of climbing experience. The challenge ahead of them is thought to be insurmountable, as the air is so thin at the summit that it induces hypoxia and cell death. It is also bitterly cold and the mountain is frequently battered by gale-force winds. Undaunted, the duo ascend to the peak and descend to tell the tale. They were the first people ever thought to step foot on the highest point on the globe.
