Jeff Winger works at a law firm. He has a big secret, though: he fudged the truth about his education. Winger, unbeknownst to his employers, doesn't possess a bachelor's degree. Eventually, his law firm finds out about this falsification. This leads to Winger's suspension. Because of the suspension, Winger is forced to sign up for classes at Greendale Community College. His goal is to finally obtain a bachelor's degree. When he arrives at the community college, he soon develops a romantic interest in pretty blonde Britta Perry, a student who is in his Spanish course. Perry used to be a political activist. Winger, continuing with his history of fabrication, tells Perry that he puts together study group sessions. This, however, is a total lie for Winger's own benefit. Winger simply wants an excuse to be around Perry. His strategy fails when other students in the Spanish course join the study sessions. Although the presence of the other students ruins Winger's scheme to be alone with Perry, they all soon develop strong friendships.
