Claire Simmons is a woman with a painful past who has dealt with her misery by adopting a caustic sense of humor. She also finds solace in a pain management group, though mostly because it is an outlet for her searing brand of comedy. When Nina, another member of the group, commits suicide, it throws Claire into a spiral. She is deeply shaken by the death and seeks understanding with Nina's husband. Together, they begin to explore the hidden pain that drove Nina, as well as deal with the tragedy that Claire has kept bottled up for far too long.
