Will McAvoy sees the world differently than others. The United States isn't an amazing, melting pot of opportunity, but it yearns to be that way. As a television anchor for a national news show, McAvoy must remain impartial when it comes to world affairs. After his stark honesty regarding the United States at a college presentation, McAvoy finds that his newsroom staff is gone and replaced with new faces. To complicate matters more, his ex-girlfriend, MacKenzie McHale, is now the executive producer. His friend and confidant, Charlie Skinner, remains stoic and positive about the newsroom changes. With MacKenzie and Charlie supporting McAvoy, the newsroom charges ahead with a focused show based on government honesty and exposure. News fluff from reality television and celebrity news is put aside for a more mind-expanding news show. Not everyone is impressed at the news station, especially the owners. Fixated on gaining higher ratings, the newsroom must strike a balance between true journalism and corporate monetary needs. With a talented group of interns, producers and journalists, the newsroom is poised to change the world of information.
