Caroline is a former heiress who, as a result of the crimes of her father, has lost all of her wealth and is forced to work as a waitress in a restaurant in the hipster neighborhood of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. With the help of fellow server, bad girl, and smart tongued new best friend, Sam, she learns to live like like the common people do. And thanks to Sam's prodigious baking skills, the pair open up a cupcake business, hoping to earn their way out of the poverty that's part of the show's titles, while having numerous wacky misadventures along the way.
