Jake Peralta manages to be one of the best NYPD detectives in his precinct despite having the personality of a goofy schoolboy, and deadpan, serious Captain Ray Holt and scary looking but intensely caring Sergeant Terry Jeffords must show him that growing up yet still having fun is possible. The young detective may need to change if he wants to become as successful personally and romantically as he is in his career, and maturing a little might be the key to making progress with perky, rule-obsessed fellow detective Amy Santiago while Peralta's best buddy Charles Boyle learns that staying friends is all sarcastic, surly Rosa Diaz may ever want.
